Youth Mentoring Ministries

Good foundations in the faith are necessary to avoid the confusion and the pull of the world around us. Mentoring creates a positive impact in youth’s lives and helps them not only understand and learn skills needed in life, but help them understand themselves and God better, and builds necessary relationships.

Walking with youth in parish programs while they are building their future and faith foundation .

There are several areas to work directly with youth of varying age groups - time frames include throughout the school year, usually about 45 minutes per week and periodic special events, and 2 weeks in summer for vacation bible school.

  • Do you enjoy interacting with kids/youth?
  • Do you like being a part of forming lives and futures?
  • Do you enjoy bringing your faith and faith teaching to youth in creative ways?


  • Can you spare 30-40 minutes a week after or during Mass?
  • Can you spare a few hours for retreats and special formation events?

KIDS LITURGY OF THE WORD TEAM

Helping to provide the Gospel message in kid terms.

Kids Liturgy of the Word is done during Mass at the time of the Readings and Homily.

  • 30 minutes during Mass
  • work with other mentors & small group of kids
  • work in the hall during the readings of the Mass
  • Church dress attire
  • Provide the Gospel message to the kids in a creative pre-planned method

COMMUNION PREP

Walking through the preparation steps and formation with 1st Communion candidates

Communion Prep takes place during the Fall through Spring months on Sundays once a month with occasional special retreats / events – usually taking about 40 minutes after Mass and length of special event.


  • 40 minutes after Mass once a month
  • occasional special events
  • work as a group with 1st & 2nd grade kids
  • Church Dress attire
  • work in hall
  • Be a good role model for kids while helping them with formation studies

CONFIRMATION PREP

Walking through the preparation steps and formation with Confirmation candidates

Confirmation Prep takes place during the Fall through Spring months on Sundays once a month with occasional special retreats / events – usually taking about 40 minutes after Mass and length of special event.

  • 40 minutes after Mass once a month
  • occasional special events
  • work as a group with 7th & 8th grade kids
  • Church Dress attire
  • work in hall
  • Be a good role model for kids while helping them with formation studies

KIDS SMALL GROUP

Walk with young kids through creative group discussions and interactions

Kids Small Groups take place during the Fall through Spring months on Sundays once a month – usually taking about 40 minutes after Mass.

  • 40 minutes after Mass once a month
  • with a partner and a group of kids
  • groups are broken into age groups
  • church dress attire
  • work in hall or classroom
  • guide a group of kids through age related discussions

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL TEAM

Interacting with kids using activities and formation in a retreat setting

Vacation Bible School takes place in the summer, usually July, and lasts for two weeks with 6 hour days Monday through Friday.

  • 6 hours per day for 10 days in summer
  • work with several other mentors with groups of kids
